ABOUT US

Why MEANFootball™ Exists

MEANFootball™ began with a simple idea: football analysis can be smarter, fair, and open to everyone. We believe that understanding the game shouldn’t require secret formulas or exclusive clubs—it should be about learning, sharing, and enjoying football together.

How It All Started

My sports analysis journey began in 1987…
—Dave, Founder of MEANFootball™

Curious about what really drove team success, I ran my first study to see if Duke University's basketball player Danny Ferry’s free throws impacted game outcomes. Sharing these findings with Danny and Coach Mike Krzyzewski was more than exciting. It was the start of a lifelong habit of asking questions, measuring performance, and trying to find the “why” behind the numbers.

Lessons Beyond the Field

That same year, I presented my study to my employer as a way to share statistical methods with our managers. The lesson was clear: the principles of measurement, learning from variation, and continuous improvement apply everywhere—not just in sports.

Before that, during my time as a Coast Guard officer, I heard a question that stuck with me: “Did you move the big peanut forward today?” It was a simple way of asking, “Did you make progress?” That idea—steady, honest progress—remains at the heart of MEANFootball™. Using statistics wisely makes for a powerful process!

Our Process

At MEANFootball™, we use methods built on decades of research, data, and real-world results. Our model is proprietary but our reasoning isn’t hidden. We’re always looking for ways to improve our model and enhance its performance—so every fan can follow along and see how we’re doing.

Our approach is grounded in:

  • Studying both the numbers and the context behind each game

  • Learning from what worked (and what didn’t) in the past

  • Sharing our thinking openly, so anyone can follow along

We know that football is full of surprises. That’s why we combine honest data, thoughtful analysis, and a steady focus each season.

Results & Lessons Learned

In the world of football predictions, even top experts typically achieve win rates of 55–60% in their best years. These figures refer to straight-up winner predictions. Many finish closer to 50% or lower. There’s always variability—some years go smoothly, others bring unexpected twists.

Here’s how MEANFootball™ has performed recently:

  • 2024 Regular Season:  66.7% correct

  • 2025 Regular Season:  64.2% correct

  • 2025 Playoffs:                 92.3% correct*

* 12 out of 13 games, including the Super Bowl

Our biggest lesson? Consistency and understanding matter most. Being right feels good, but understanding why you’re right—or wrong—matters even more.

Community for Fans

No matter your background, experience, or how you watch the game, you’re welcome here. MEANFootball™ is for the curious, the analytical, and for anyone who just enjoys a good story about the game.

We’re proud of what we’ve learned (and still learning!)—but we never forget: every season brings new challenges, and every fan brings a new perspective.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just getting curious, we hope you’ll join us for the journey.

Welcome to MEANFootball™. See you Wednesdays . . .
and sometimes more often!
